2 years ago I started to grow sunflowers. I've been growing gardens for years and love the time spent out in nature, but I wanted something different. I took a 12' diameter patch of our field and decided to plant 99 sunflowers. It wasn't a random mix but a well thought out rows of sunflowers. The outer circle would have the shorter sunflowers, maybe 2-3' in height. Then they would progress in height as we went further in. I also had different sunflowers of the same height in the same row. I ended up with 25 varieties in 6 rows of sunflowers ranging from 2' to 15' in height. It was beautiful. This past year I took the same circle and increased the count to 125 sunflowers and 33 varieties. I also planted tulips and allium in the circle for the spring season. This allowed me to see the beauty when spring first sprung and then have the sunflowers begin after the tulips died down. People would stop and ask me about it. Neighbors would say they love seeing them everyday. Then one day while shopping at The Home Depot, a man came up to me and said, "Hey, aren't you the sunflower man?".
